Where can you find your 3 Credit Scores?

3 Credit ScoresA consumer can have 3 Credit Scores. A credit score is issued to a consumer by each of the three major credit reporting bureaus. The credit bureaus compile a consumer's financial activity into a report. The report is may be used by credit card companies, banks, insurers, rental property owners, and utilities to judge a consumer's credit worthiness.

You will need to request your credit report from all three credit reporting bureaus to get your 3 Credit Scores. Why request all 3 Credit Scores? Not every credit score may be the same. Each credit reporting bureau gains consumer information in different ways. While one credit reporting agency may have the consumer's correct information, the other credit reporting agency may have reported inaccurate information that affects the credit score they issue.

This poses a potential problem for a consumer who wants to buy an automobile or house. Not all lenders use all three credit reporting agencies. If the particular lender who the consumer is applying for a loan from uses the credit reporting agency with the inaccurate information, the lender may deny the loan based on the erroneous information they received in the report.

Because the 3 Credit Scores can differ from one credit reporting agency to another, financial advisers recommend consumers request all three credit reports and review the information it contains. If one of the reports contains inaccurate information that is affecting the consumer's chances of receiving approval on a loan application, the consumer can dispute the information with the credit reporting bureau that generated the report. Each credit reporting bureau has implemented procedures to allow consumers to dispute information they believe to be inaccurate. Generally, the credit reporting bureaus have 30 days to respond to the consumer's dispute request. The credit reporting bureaus may reject the dispute if they believe it is frivolous.

3 Credit ScoresConsumers should check their credit report and their 3 Credit Scores at least once a year. Under federal law,  a consumer is entitled to a free copy of their credit report  from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus.
